For Brian Fanton, owner of BE’s Coins & More, 1210 North Center Point Road, coins aren’t just currency; they’re a passion.

At a young age, Brian’s grandfather gave him a coin collector’s book, which started his love for all things currency. From there, an appreciation for the history and artisanship behind each item led to an even greater passion.

Eventually, this appreciation allowed him to turn a simple hobby into a successful shop that’s been in Hiawatha since 1969.

BE’s Coins & More is a full service business offering appraisals, coin grading submission services, and Boy Scout Merit badge and speaker programs, all while identifying itself as an ANA (American Numismatic Association) member dealer; which means they follow a code of ethics for honest and reliable service.

But Brian isn’t just an enthusiast and business owner. He’s a literal expert in the field. Fanton has been a coin collector for more than 55 years and a full-time coin dealer since 1999. He started teaching introductory and grading courses in 1995 and has continued almost every summer since. By his estimate, he presents to more than 1,000 students every year.

Brian was honored in 2012 with the Adna G. Wilde Jr. Memorial Award for Excellence. The award recognizes ANA members who dedicate  their time and resources to further the educational purposes of the Association and the hobby, and who set an example for others. Brian also shares his wealth of knowledge with various law enforcement groups about counterfeiting.

In his spare time he teaches grading classes in Colorado Springs, works with Boy Scout troops, and visits local classrooms.
